You wouldn't be referrring to the guy who sounds like a cross between Bruce Buffer and some seedy lounge act would you? :smokin:

HAHA that's awesome. Although this person does need to drop the over emphasis on the lounge singer part..... makes him sound similar to the guy on a used car commercial. Posted Image

Trophies - we used to do a trophy presentation on Saturday night, awarding the trophies from the previous weekend. Back then, we couldn't hand out trophies for that weekend's racing because it used to take days/weeks for the results to be finalized. Trophies (wood plaques) were made ahead of time. Problems were not all the racers who earned trophies were at the following race weekend; trophies were made back to 3rd place, but there weren't always that many bikes in the class; some racers had so many trophies they didn't want a trophy for every podium finish. Ask Jenelle how many trophies she's hauled around trying to deliver.

The 'instant' results we have now could maybe allow us to award trophies the same weekend. Rather than order the wood plaques, continue to order the brass tags. Not as much $ lost if the racer doesn't want or claim the tag. Maybe we could convince BIR to build a podium for the competition course.

Calls to Grid - The stewards are the one who decide when the calls to grid are made. We have a clock (with seconds) in front of us, and try our hardest to keep those calls 2 minutes apart. Sometimes there is a mechanical/crash on the last lap or cool down, someone dawdels they're way around, or the workers discover a track issue that needs to be addressed before bikes are sent out again which would extend the time between calls to grid. We record every call to grid, and we're pretty darn close to 2 minute intervals.

Announcer - this is always a plus! Maybe a program could be coordinated with one of the local broadcast schools to allow their students to announce. While not a paid position, it would look good on their resume and give them some practical experience. CRA could designate a coordinator to work with the school to make sure the races are covered for announcers (similar to the OEC program - the old timers remember this).

Rider's Meetings - the point of the rider's meeting is to make riders aware of any track issues, procedural changes/reminders, opportunity to ask questions, review the day's schedule. Having the Rider Meeting after we've opened the track defeats the purpose. In fact, we've been talking about moving the Friday Rider Meeting from lunch time to morning, like Saturday and Sunday. Posting the day's announcements won't guarantee everyone reads it. The Rider's Meeting is a safety component to the weekend.

Workers/Staffing - I like the idea of an online sign up, as well as incentives. An online sign up is something we've never tried, so it certainly can't hurt! We can never have too many corner workers. We do need to be careful with this, as people will sign up and then not be able to come to the track. Maybe there's an extra worker point awarded to workers who sign up online and actually work what they signed up for? We're already having problems where people come through the gate as workers (the club pays BIR for their admission) and then don't work, or only a few hours. We'd have to make sure this doesn't get out of control. The online signup could help the F&C Chiefs with corner assignments prior to the weekend as well.

Family Atmosphere - I love the idea of a club taco feed, or something on Saturday nights. I think anything that brings the club together as a group is good - pitbike races! A bunch of us have worked hard to change the 'worker fire' into a 'CRA fire', and I think we all need to keep inviting everyone to the fire. It's a great way to get to know each other. JP (Chief of Pyro) has worked with Jed to make sure there's wood (or buildings) to burn this year. Thank you JP and Jed!

Thank you BOD for looking for ways to improve our club. Thank you to all the volunteers. It's exhausting work but fulfilling. Thank you racers - you help feed all our addiction.

I have noticed more racers at the worker fire than had been there in the past. (or maybe I'm just getting better at recognizing all you racers with out a helmet on :P ) But from what I've noticed it's just the late timing that seems to make it difficult for them to enjoy, having to be up and clear minded so early Sunday morning. A dinner time gathering would be awesome. So many times we get done and before we know it it's 7:00, we're starving and everyone has skattered for the evening.

Maybe we get one big club grill and park it in the winner's circle (or somewhere for SC) and you can just bring your meat/veggies and everyone can grill together... Mark as Chief Grill Master maybe :duno: Then the club just provides the propane and a hot surface, vs food for an unknown about of people.

There were a few of us trying to get the fire going while it was still light out last month - but having to xfer the wood from one end of the track to the other took more time than expected....

I agree though - maybe if they started a little earlier there might be a bigger turn out prior to everyone buttoning things up for the evening and calling it a night.

If workers could move about to different corners or work 1/2 days we may get more volunteers. As it is right now it can be a long day hanging out at one corner, especially if you and your buddy get sent to different corners. It's more appealing to just pay the $30 and be able to bounce around all day and come and go as you please.

I realize that this could be a staffing nightmare to let workers just leave as they please but perhaps switch them up at lunch or let them work two 1/2 days instead of one long one.

I'll be doing it as much as I can, I had a blast doing it last season. As far as the paddock, I don't know if it improved toward the end of the season or not, I wasn't in the paddock much.

So, as long as this thread has been bumped...Worker recruitment and retention...one of the best incentives to find new workers to come up was the worker cash award given away at Sunday lunch. For each new worker a current worker brings in, their name goes into a drawing to be picked on Sunday and the winner got $50 cash handed to them. I think there was two or three winners drawn per weekend at one point (possibly based upon how many new workers a person brought in for that weekend?). Your odds obviously increased the more successful you were with your recruiting efforts. In these economic times, money can really talk loudly!
