    Here's the finished box,

Working on both bikes for spring I suppose it's time to reveal the airbox specifics. It was developed on mine thru several dozen pulls and airbox mods/versions and is now being used on V2. This is the version that beat all comers on the dyno. It has a nice ridable torque curve, sustains high flow for a modified engine with cams, bored throttle bodies and ported head and sustains that air flow 2000rpm longer than the stocker. It moves peak power up as well so is a poor choice for use on the street or on stock motors. Pulls are posted earlier in this thread.

I removed the intake runners from the front of the airbox. Then removed a double section of runner with a sharp knife, about 2 1/2". Then the ends are carefully glued back together, Super Glue works nicely and has held up to 3 years of in and out on mine. They are then reinstalled into the airbox after being trim fit to allow quick r&r of the airbox or throttle bodies trackside as the stock box is a sommabitch to get in and out. The airbox is normally run with the cover and filter removed, just the shortened rubber intake runners inside the box. Power drops slightly when a high-flow filter and modded cover is added.

I realize this isn't super science as shorter runners generally support higher rpm power but I wanted to have the data to back it up. I wasn't happy with 'because some guy, some place, at some time said so'. An engineer acquantence did the fluid Dynamics modelling on the airbox and proved it was damn close to perfect in flow charcteristics and volume for a parallel twin of this size (who knew Yamaha knew anything). The stock restrictor plate/cover keeps mid-range up and did limit high rpm power but once removed and the engine modified to match it literally came alive. After extensive work in the shop and on the dyno and on track we have the data to support it.

This makes a shade less peak power than velocity stacks but has better throttle response and mid-range and complies with 'airbox rules'.

On an aside, work has slowed on my bike but this showed up in the shop,Attached File  18775-MMS-1550967334419-attachment1-2019022395181053.jpg (356.56K)

When stuff from Robem Engineering, Trackside Labs and TWF Racing gets here we'll have us a little build party. This one was ordered like mine 'but with any upgrades or changes I'd make after 4 years flogging it, minus wheels (which he has)'. Then it will get delivered to a CCS/WERA/MotoAmerica Twins Cup racer as his second mistress.
