Edited.

Here's a thread for posting about trips, planned get-togethers, snow reports, questions about gear, or whatever.

I for one plan on hitting the slopes a LOT this season!

My snowboard has remained dormant for the past few years, hoping to dust the cobwebs off this year. Planning a weekend stay at Lutsen with a coworker in January...

I'm subscribed. I'm hoping for some 10pm-3am Troll nights. Kinda hard to ignore $15 lift tickets. Plus the bar is relatively cheap.

Where are there places to snowboard around here? I always meant to go when I lived in az but it never happened. I figured I wouldn't get to here since it's pretty flat, but it sounds like there are some ski/snowboarding slopes?

Lots of places.
Afton Alps is very close to mpls. North of Hastings. Great run selection. Pretty good size. Vail bought them now. They just spent $10 million on upgrades this fall.

Wild mountain is smaller but fun. Near Taylers Falls.
Trollhagen is not far.
Buck Hill is close. Right on 35.
Welch Village is close to Red Wing
Spirit Mountain is overlooking Lake Superior in Duluth.
Lutsen is up the North Shore, and is the biggest. Awesome resort.

Just google MN ski resorts and you'll see we have over a dozen good places to have fun.

If you're used to riding in the mountains, not "mountains", you're going to be disappointed wherever you ride here. Unless you're into park stuff, then there's plenty. But if you're a back bowl/powder junky...good luck to ya.

I miss riding. Did a lot of it when I lived out west.

I concur with getting spoiled by riding actual mountains and not these one minute hills. I lived in Colorado for 5-6years and when I came back to MN a couple years ago, I couldn't get into riding these super short runs anymore, I'd rather save some money and ride out west again. Sorry to be a negative nancy, but it's true, riding actual mountains and powder beats the stuff we have here.

I agree with the above posters. But it's still fun here.

I skied here for a good chuck of my youth. Then i skied in Colorado in 1990. Keystone, Breckenridge, then Vail. That trip made me quit skiing all together. In fact, last year was my 1st time skiing in 22 years!
What got me back into it? Everyone was saying how much fun, and easier to ski with these new shaped (parabolic) skis. How it rejuvenated their enjoyment for it. Even here in Minnesota.
Boy were they right. You can carve so much better with them than you could with the old "straight" examples.

I do plan on going back to Colorado soon. But I cant wait to ski here some more.

Torchsport, you ever skied Steamboat? I was a local for a few seasons, and the "champagne powder" was heavenly. If anyone decides to ski/ride out west, I highly suggest this resort. It may be a little on the expensive side when it comes to lift tickets, but it's worth it.

For anyone talking about going out west -- the Vail Epic pass is not an incredible deal around here. $729 and it's a full Afton Alps pass and is also good at all vail affiliated resorts. Vail and Beaver Creek are close to $120/day now so if you use it a handful of times it will pay for itself plus you can use it locally.

I'd like to try Steamboat one day. The great thing about Colorado, for me, my cousin lives in Brighton. Free place to stay! :HappyDance1:

Central Middle School has a nice handrail (off Monroe and 48th in Columbia Heights) for you jibbers. It has a nice little hill running up to it too.

Real men ride rails. No homo.
