I'm considering buying a little bike. I was really loving the Z 125, but then I saw the new redesigned Grom. I'm really torn now! I'm not 100% committed to buying a small bike yet, but if I do pull the trigger, I need to figure out which one to get.

Please discuss the pros/cons and any personal preferences you might have. It'll help me quantify things in my head and better choose what's best for me.

I'm getting the Z125. Just waiting on a call from St. Boni or the local Fargo dealership. Hopefully any day.

Initial reports have been positive with a few of them giving the nod to the Z125 over the Grom, which in my opinion is subjective. I can't remember if those were in relation to the original design or the new design Grom. I don't knkw what has been improved or changed spec wise or coat wise on the Grom. Obviously the aftermarket is there for the Grom now having been on the market for a while, but I expect the Kawi to get up to speed rather quick.

Both are arguably fun. My biggest gripe was with the cost (markup) on the Grom. They're going for almost $5K up here brand new, if not more. That has translated into the used and abused prices to be right at MSRP. No thanks. I would much rather be able to walk in, give them my card and walk out carrying my Z125 like a case of beer. I think if they can keep markup down on the Z125 Kawi will have a winner.

I keep telling myself I'm buying it for the wife for her birthday in a few weeks to get her into riding. But I know I will be using it to hoon around town with, bring back home to Lakes country when I don't want to bring a big bike and as a pit bike.

I hadn't heard about the new Grom. I like it!
Obviously it comes down to your manufacturer preference.

Front brake on the Kawi appears inferior to the Honda.

Ha, that was cool.

To the OP. Why would you buy new when you can get a tricked out version of either bike for less? You may have to travel a few miles but I would go that route. I like road trips and good deals.

I've heard it's plenty strong for the bike, though.

They're cheap, but I can't drop a few grand on a used one all at once.

Prices on used ones seem to be so high not worth buying used

I'd go new grom. Proven reliability, lot of aftermarket, won't continually get asked "wait so is that like a grom" when your on the kawi

Honda 4 lyfe!

The 2016 Grom looks better, but for $2900 for a new 2015, it would almost be worth it to me.
