The board of directors has been in discussion over the last few days and has come to the decision to change our July event to a double sprint weekend. With the shortened season the board decided that this would give the most racing opportunity to the most riders. There is also the looming uncertainty with what regulations may change pertaining to COVID. This is also a benefit to the club as a whole.

As of now, events for the rest of this season’s events remain the same, but as a board, we will continue to monitor the situation and may make adjustments according to what is best for the club, racers, and volunteers.

Schedule for the July Double Sprints should be posted very soon!

SEE YOU ALL SOON!

I was working Turn 2 on Saturday and a CCS racer came out to the gazebo with his wife and father. They were talking about race pricing and how CRA was pretty comparable to their local club, MRA(?). They said they do not charge for a racer wrist band, and after spending $3xx dollars on races, everything after that was free. They said what really surprised them was the $60 admission at the gate.

Took a look at MRA's pricing structure, it is very interesting - not sure if we could make budget here doing that. Race 1 costs $150, Race 2 costs $90, $35, $20, and 5+ all your races are free. Max spend for a racer is $295. They also have considerably less races than we do - so if you only owned a R3 for instance you can only run 2 or 3 races during the whole weekend, plus an endurance some rounds.

If you had 100 racers at your race weekend (each did at least 4 races), that means you made $29,500 - which at BIR barely covers the 3-day full weekend track rental and other costs.

One thing to note, they don't run a Friday practice and they have 8 events to pay for their yearly budget. We have 5 events so need to make more money during each event to pay for the non-race related things that are needed (insurance).

Having a wristband fee is just a different way to skin the cat - with CCS you get your wristband included in the price of the first race, which is more expensive than the 2nd and on races to purchase. CRA could eliminate the wristband fee if we just made the 1st race more expensive. I went back and forth on that for years trying to figure out the best way but in the end one way or the other you need X amount of dollars to operate.

The $60 gate fee is something BIR takes that we have no control over (unless you volunteer!!!!), and is pretty standard at most tracks. (that $ may be higher than other tracks but it is also usually covering an extra day).

To put it in even more perspective, WERA's fees are as follows. Remember WERA is I think the largest club racing organization in the US.

Friday practice: $200 (not every event has a Friday practice)
Race 1 $105
Race 2 $85
Race 3 $85
Races 4 and up $75 each

So if you did a 3 day weekend with practice + 6 races it will cost you $700. They also say the average camping fee at most tracks is $25 per person per weekend.

CRA the same is $435.

For kicks, WERA 4 hour endurance is $495 per team, and their 6 hour endurance is $695 per team. CRA for the 5-hour is $60 per person, you can have max 5 people ($300) but a lot of teams run with 3 ($180).

Wow. Either they have huge track rental fees, or they are a for-profit organization. ...Or both. I suppose they probably pay track staff, too.

Yes both WERA and CCS are for profit businesses that pay the track staff but also have paid employees (vs. CRA has a volunteer board and other volunteers that help make the club work outside of the race weekend).
