The guy I know with the Tesla had an 80-amp circuit installed (which seemed large to me). I could provide a 50-amp circuit reasonably easily in my garage. Do you somehow program the charger for the service available?

"Fun" is not my motivation for an electric vehicle. I see cars in general as being a lot more utilitarian than fun (although I would not want to own a minivan). It also bugs me that most electric vehicles have no need of a gearbox (a big part of fun for me).
