  1. New Engine Tech from Kawasaki

    01 July 2020 - 12:59 PM

    "Supercharged 2-stroke Hybrid"

TLDR: Combines 2-stroke firing with overhead poppet-valves and requires a super charger to make it all function. Kawi plans to use this to power electric generators to power EV's. This engine's potential fuel efficiency will make it a viable option to generate electricity to power electric vehicles at potentially the same net efficiency of current "plug-in" EV's. It will do this by running steadily within it's optimal RPM range to charge smaller batteries or super capacitors, saving the weight and cost of large batteries. Giant freight ships have used this type (diesel) engine technology to achieve the best efficiency from fossil fuels and Kawi might be trying to bring this tech to the world of consumer transportation.
I'm really happy Kawi takes big leaps. It has been interesting watching them develop the last few years. The H2 brought us a production supercharged motorcycle. And most recently, the ZX25-R is a screaming little inline 4cyl race machine. And now they are even working on predictive cornering tech.

This new engine likely won't be a hit anytime soon, but it's cool to think of the possibilities.

For now, MotoGP isn't ruling out the prospect of heading overseas during the latter stages of the year with Circuit of The Americas (USA), Termas de Rio Honda (Argentina), Chang (Buriram) and Sepang (Malaysia) listed as provisional with no assigned dates. They will be confirmed or removed by the deadline of July 31st, with the season potentially running deep into December as a result.

All dates, events and the eventual attendance of spectators are subject to the evolution of the pandemic and the approval of the corresponding Governments and authorities.
  3. Aprilia RS660

    09 June 2020 - 12:31 PM

Seems like it's getting closer to reality.

Will it live up to early power claims? Soon to be a LW class destroyer? Over expensive hype?

    Quote

The clues that this bike is in nearly finished form are the lack of any kind of data-logging or tracking equipment fitted to the bikes. When companies test the bikes earlier in their development cycle you will often see boxes strapped to the pillion seat with wires and sensors coming out them. The lack of any such equipment points to these trials being for reliability or final testing.

The RS660 was supposed to be rolling out in front of the public at the Aprilia Festival at Mugello a couple of weeks back. COVID-19 managed to spoil that one for us, so we’ll have to wait a little longer for this bike’s first full reveal.

  4. Considering an FTR

    02 June 2020 - 07:17 AM

This is less of a question thread and more of a 'for the hell of it' discussion topic, for the sake of talking bikes on MNSBR:

By a stroke of luck, last night I was able to borrow an Indian FTR 1200 and went for a ride with my fiance all night. She absolutely loves it. (Not that it matters, but I like it, too) Though, she doesn't have experience being on many bikes other than an R3 and a Grom. I like the FTR's combo of sportiness and cruising capability. The power is very nice and the looks are stellar.

Previously, I was thinking about getting a KTM 790 for my next street bike, but I'm thinking that's not going to be as comfortable, even with an aftermarket pillion seat, but who knows till we try...

-I like the 790 for the power-to-weight, sharp looks and sporty ride with a more ergo-standard seating position. (100 bhp / 61 ft-lb and 448# wet)
-I like the FTR for the big torque, classic/retro/sleek looks, decently sporty ride and yet still a slightly forward-standard seating position. It's a heavier bike, but would be smoother cruising. And it comes with cruise control! (123hp / 87 ft-lb and 517# wet)

I know BD10 has an FTR. What do you think about yours Brett? Worthy of a purchase for long term ownership and cruising with the lady? Keep you happy in the twisties and on solo rides?

  5. FS: Savage 93R17 -- GONE

    26 January 2020 - 10:51 PM

    ***Gone***

    Savage Arms 93R17 FV-SR
    (<--click for web link)
-.17 HMR (I love this little round)
    -One 5 round mag
    -One 10 round mag
    -Black synthetic stock
-1/2"-28 threaded barrel to host muzzle break/accessory or suppressor
    -Thread-saver ring

    Included:
    -Scope rings
    -Cheek rest wrap
    -Bi-pod: folding and telescoping
-Original factory box and owner's manual

I love shooting .17 HMR. So much that I have 2 of them. I need to sell one, so this one is available. Less than 150 rounds through it. Breech (pictured below) looks brand new, no wear. Bring this home and discover the accuracy and speed of the economic .17 HMR. Fantastic round for target shooting, varmint hunting and making pop bottles explode.
