This is why I don't get a diesel. Diesels get just as bad mileage as a gasser when towing big stuff. Yea it might be easier, but thats it...

My gas truck got 4-6.5mgg towing my fish house. Worst I've gotten with my diesel is 10.9.. But that was at 80mph and -20 temps. I average 13 now wit the the diesel. I'll take the extra 30-40 cents a gallon for double or tripple the mileage.

Is there a reason you wouldn’t go Chevy again? I have an ‘02 1500HD, and honestly don’t have much to complain about. I’ve had to replace the fuel pump, that’s it (along with routine stuff like brakes and tires). I’m assuming the PO did front end stuff because that’s still tight at about 170,000 miles. It does have the typical Chevy rust in the rockers and cab corners, but I guess that can be expected in a 16 year old truck in MN. The 6.0 motor seems to be pretty damn reliable; I know it’s not the horsepower king these days, but it pulls/hauls everything I’ve asked it to.

My 02 Chevy has only 130k on it I bought it with 90k. Its starting to Nickel and Dime me to death and the body cancer is starting. Kinda wanting a 4 door. Just for ease of getting things in and out of it. Im looking at all brands. Chevys just seem to have such a high retail. Plus I had a 00 Tacoma back in the day and I miss it.

The ecoboost can experience a stretched timing chain.

The 5.0Ls can get piston slap/oval bores.

Those are the two major engine things I know about. I can't say if ther is one year more prone to another.

Worked for Ford for a while. Yes it happens but the motor can also blow, as well as any other car or truck. It is not common. Don't keep up on maintenance and beat on your shit, it wont hold up. The 5.4 are known for cam phaser failure, I know a guy who has over 200k on his, never replaced them because he keeps up on the maintenance and doesnt treat his truck like a red headed step child.
I liked the 5.4, old and new. Would get another one.

Currently looking at a 08 f150 that has a 130000 on it that has a engine light on for a cam issue. One of my coworkers has the same rig with just shy of 300k on it.

Jeez I wouldn't do it, but some people swear by ford just like Chevy. Maybe the 08s are good years? Still can't believe how much Tundras go for. I sold mine the other day for 28k. Took me a while. I had it off and on for sale for like a year. Didn't get many inquiries, but posted this last time and had 3 people inquire right away, and a guy drove down from Wisconsin to check it out, and bought it the next day. I guess it will be in eau claire now. Sad to see it go but for how much i need a truck glad to not have it around anymore.

What? No. Our 5th wheel is usually around 14k-15k pounds all loaded up and we very rarely get below 10mpg in our diesel, usually only because there was a stiff head wind. If we have a nice tailwind I can get closer to 12.

If I was towing a half ton towable trailer (let's say 4,000-6,000 pounds normal enclosed trailer) I would expect to get 11-13mpg.

I'm just speaking from experience. I would always hear guys talk about hauling sleds with their diesels and getting 15 to 18 lol. Can I haul 15k pounds in a half ton? No but guys do it all the time with Tundras smh. I'm just saying if you have a diesel pulling what a half ton can pull the benefits just aren't there for me to spend the extra money. Just my .02.

Nope the one with a 130 on it does. Waiting for a it to get looked at first. The one with 300k all he really has had to do are coil packs.

He must really take care of it then. Coils are coils no matter the brand.

Im lazy and didn't read this whole thread...But I will say that I had great luck with my 07 Silverado Vortec Max. Put 175K miles on it and it only cost me a starter and a few pairs of brake pads.

15mpg in the city though.
